On Friday, we finished up our last day at the YMCA. We planned to have a competition of East vs. West cooking cuisine. We made macaroni and cheese, Chicago-style hot dogs, pizza, and s'mores. Each team had a task, and I worked on pizza. It was a little interesting, because they handed us a jar of ketchup for the sauce and asked if we wanted corn for our toppings. We assured them that sausage would be fine, and we managed to get a can of tomato sauce to go with it. All in all, it must have turned out well, because we won the competition.
In the afternoon, we had an awards ceremony and a closing meeting before taxis picked us up to go out to the countryside. We ate dinner at the house of a Concordia Wisconsin employee. He is the recruiter for most of Asia. A recruiter is a person who convinces students to attend a school. It was wonderful have a few hours to relax. We enjoyed KFC and Pizza Hut with some karaoke. After a week of 16-hour days, a break was nice.
From there, we headed to the night market for serious shopping and eclectic eats as we enjoyed one last night of fellowship with some of our Taiwanese friends. I was able to smell stinky tofu, a famous dish here. In my opinion, it smelled like a farm, and I don't recommend it. My teacher tried it last time he was here, and he agreed with me. We stuck to fruit teas.
I didn't buy anything, but it was a great experience. That night, we went back to our dormitory to pack up our bags and prepare for Saturday and another big adventure!
I learned that in Taiwan they have KFC and Pizza Hut,like we have here.I learned you had a cooking contest and I learned you made pizza in the contest.
ReplyDeleteI can use my imagination to imagine how bad tofu is. I can also use a cook book to make pizza just like you made pizza.
Last but not least my question is... what is a fruit tea?

Delaney,
ReplyDeleteFruit tea is made by squeezing fresh fruit juice into tea. I had a lemon flavor, and my friend had mango.
